Is this an ICO file or a renamed PNG?+

It is a real ICO container with an ICONDIR header, directory entries, and embedded PNG image frames. Modern browsers and Windows versions support these frames.

Can ICO preserve transparency?+

Yes. The embedded PNG frames retain alpha transparency. Choose a nontransparent background only if you want one.

Why is the ICO size limited to 256 px?+

This tool follows the conventional ICO dimension field, where a value of zero represents 256 px. Use PNG for larger exports.
